Franco Ponce
Franco Ernesto Ponce Viveros, born in Pasto, Colombia, is a visual artist whose work explores the dialogue between art history and popular culture. A graduate of the University of Nariño with a degree in Fine Arts, Ponce draws on a strong foundation in technical drawing and design to create paintings and sculptures that merge academic traditions with the imagery of everyday life. His practice, grounded in the neo-pop movement, transforms familiar figures from comics, television, and mass media into ironic and playful commentaries on contemporary culture.
Over the past two decades, Ponce has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions across Colombia and internationally, including in Ecuador and the Netherlands. His art has been featured at major cultural institutions such as the Casa de la Cultura in Pasto and the Centro Cultural Palatino, and in international exhibitions like Travesía Latitud 52 in Hengelo, Netherlands (2025). In addition to his studio work, he has contributed to community and cultural initiatives as a juror for regional art and carnival competitions, reflecting his commitment to the visual culture of his native Nariño.
Ponce’s recent series, Dialéctica entre mundos (Dialectic Between Worlds), exemplifies his ongoing search for connections between classical art and popular imagination. Through bold color, humor, and intertextual references to artists like Picasso, Dalí, and Warhol, his paintings invite viewers into a space where nostalgia and modernity collide — celebrating art as a bridge between generations, cultures, and ways of seeing.
