At Gato Gordo Gallery, we’ve always believed that art belongs to everyone. Over the last year, we have poured our hearts, time, and personal resources into creating free cultural events that bring people together through creativity — poetry nights, music performances, body-painting gatherings, community canvases, live model drawing sessions, and exhibitions spotlighting emerging and underrepresented artists.
Today, we’re proud to share the next evolution of this mission: Gato Gordo Arts, a brand-new artist-founded nonprofit dedicated to making the arts accessible, inclusive, and rooted in community.
Why We Created Gato Gordo Arts
Gato Gordo Arts was born from a simple belief: art shouldn’t be a privilege — it should be part of everyday life.
We created this nonprofit because we saw a need in Liberty City and surrounding Miami neighborhoods for more free, welcoming, culturally-relevant art experiences. Until now, everything we’ve done has been fully self-funded by our small team of artists. No grants. No sponsors. Just love, passion, and commitment to our community.
But to continue — and to grow — we need support.
What We Do
Gato Gordo Arts brings free arts programming to the community, including:
• Exhibitions highlighting BIPOC and underrepresented artists
• Live performances, poetry, and music events
• Community art gatherings and collaborative creative experiences
These events give artists a platform to be seen, valued, and celebrated — and give our community the chance to engage with the arts in a space that is open, welcoming, and free.
