Oskar Romo
Oskar Romo was born in the vibrant city of Pasto, in southern Colombia. He holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and a specialization in Pedagogy of Creativity from the University of Nariño. Since his academic training in the 1990s, Romo has developed a distinctive artistic language, deeply rooted in painting and in dialogue with contemporary thought.
Through decades of pictorial experimentation, Romo has discovered in the primitive gesture a powerful and universal language—one capable of transcending borders and touching the most essential aspects of the human condition.
GARAGATOS, his current project, uses the image of the cat as a clever pretext to invite viewers into a transformative experience: confronting the human gesture imprinted on the canvas in its purest and most spontaneous form. As one of his core premises states, “Do not look for the cat; enjoy the human gesture.”
With more than three decades of artistic practice, Romo’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including multiple editions of the prestigious ARTBO art fair. His work is part of important permanent collections such as the Medellín Museum of Modern Art (MAMM), the Art Collection of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia, and notable private collections.
